Dana L. Price, MD, Founder, Director and Chief Financial Officer of Stable Companions, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements and leadership in health care.

After establishing herself as a medical professional, Dr. Price was critically injured in 2003. Following three years of rehabilitation, she was able to relearn to walk and talk again, and though her medical career was over, she never gave up on helping her community. She started Stable Companions, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, to rehabilitate special needs individuals through its Barn Buddies program. Through this program, Dr. Price works to teach life skills at the ranch every day so the clients could become an independent part of their communities again. Stable Companions showed their clients how to drive equipment, switch out implements, maintain equipment, change oil and change flat tires. They also teach animal health, including giving vaccinations and caring for injuries, and have had enormous success in both Texas and Missouri.

Dr. Price attributes her success to her faith, as well as being headstrong and resourceful. She is a state certified wildlife rehabilitator and a member of Sigma Xi, and has been recognized for her achievements with a number of awards and honors. Prior to her professional pursuits, Dr. Price attended Drury University, earning a Bachelor of Science in biology in 1988, in addition to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She concluded her academic pursuits at the University of Kansas with an MD in 1992. During her medical career in the years preceding her injury, she considers the highlight of her career to be conducting research that led to the discovery of blood in IV tubing, which opened people’s eyes to the dangers of reusing syringes after injecting in IV tubes. In the coming years, she plans to grow the legacy she began with her charitable work at Stable Companions.
