Howard Clark, Jr., Co-Owner at Red’s Donuts, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in foodservice.
Red’s Donut Shop was first started by his dad, Howard Clark, Sr. and when he retired he turned the business over to him and two other brothers. He tries to take control where he can but he is not afraid to ask for help. It is a shared experience. Mr. Clark became involved in his profession because of his dad who taught him the business and he began cutting donuts with his hands since he was 16 years old. Mr. Clark built on what his dad started and was proud to be a part of it and to be associated with the recognition. He likes to shake the hands of the people when they come into the shop and like hearing their stories of how they met his dad and what he did. His dad would donate donuts and wanted it to be kept anonymous because he wanted to do the right thing and not make it about him. They continued to donate to anything they felt would make a difference.
Mr. Clark attributes his success to good products and word of mouth. They try to keep a friendly face at the front line when people come into the shop. Making sure that when they walk out they had what they needed. Red’s Donut Shop was opened by his father in 1955 and when he retired in 1997, Mr. Clark took over as a co-owner and has been working hard to keep the business going ever since. He hopes to pass on the business to his son Jason as his dad passed it on to him and his brothers. As a testament to his success, Mr. Clark’s shop has been named Best Donut Shop from 2011 to 2019, received a People’s Choice Award, and was named the Best Place to Buy Donuts in Kentucky. In his spare time, Mr. Clark is a model train enthusiast. He enjoys computer games, video games and riding a bike. He is also a member of the Chamber of Commerce.
