Located in Newark and New Brunswick, New Jersey, RU Hungry is deemed the “Home of the Original Fat Sandwich,” transforming food truck services from a standardized meal stop into a delicious experience. Established in 1997 by Mr. Elnaggar, RU Hungry and its sandwiches have been featured on television on myriad occasions, including the renowned series “Man v. Food,” and was rated #1 Sandwich in the Country by Maxim Magazine in 2004.
Geared toward hard-working college students on various New Jersey campuses, RU Hungry also established the “Eat 5 in 45” challenge, in which students participated in a timed challenge of eating five sandwiches in 45 minutes in order to have a sandwich named in their honor. Considered a “torchbearer of grease truck history,” Mr. Elnaggar aims to cater to the budget of students, as well as make his food cost-effective. He attributes his and his company’s success to hard work and passion.
Initially earning a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Alexandria University in his native Egypt. Mr. Elnaggar immigrated to the United States in 1988 and earned a Bachelor of Science in telecommunication management from DeVry University in 1997. Looking toward the future, he intends to franchise his business, as well as venture into real estate.
