Douglas J. Miller, President and Owner at SpanaFlight Aviation, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in aviation.
Inspired by a passion for flight, Mr. Miller sought after a career in aviation after notably serving with the U.S. Army from 1986 to 1990 as a helicopter mechanic. Today, he is the president and owner, as well as a private pilot, for SpanaFlight Aviation based in Puyallup and Auburn, Washington. Offering comprehensive flight training and instruction, SpanaFlight Aviation also specializes in aircraft rentals, scenic flights, maintenance, laser grade/PSI testing center and aircraft sales. Looking to the future, Mr. Miller hopes to expand his business further down the west coast, as well as finance facilities in the Midwest. He presently holds membership with the Eagles Association and sits on the advisory boards for the Aviation Administration, Green River College and Pierce County Airport.
In his endeavors, Mr. Miller has been a recipient of a Veteran Owned Business Award from Google and recognized for Excellence in Flight Training in 2020. Additionally, he was granted a Positive Certification for Upcoming Companies in CMB in 2019 and a Certificate of Recognition from Pierce County in 2018. Among his civic duties, Mr. Miller devotes time to various community outreach efforts through his business in offering daycares and schools presentations on aviation. He attributes his business’ current success to great input and opinions from his mentors, including Billy Lynn, as well as his motto, “Wake up every day, be thankful for what you have and show up.” Along with these achievements, Mr. Miller was proud to earn an Associate of Arts in business from the University of Phoenix in 2007.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Miller served Flow International as a journey machinist from 1998 to 2005 and as a commodity manager from 2005 to 2010. In 2011, he took on the role of supply chain and manufacturing consultant with Supply Quality Resource Group in Taiwan for one year, before moving up to director of sales and marketing for North America and Europe. Finally, from 2013 to 2016, Mr. Miller was the director of business operations for the SEU facility in Germany. After more than 20 years in the corporate world, Mr. Miller spearheaded his dreams and uses what he calls his, “wheels of attention,” meaning he will work through any obstacle. He notes the most recent obstacle has been the COVID-19 pandemic. In his free time, Mr. Miller enjoys spending time with his blended family’s six children and 13 grandchildren.
