Kenneth R. Schena, CLU, President and Chief Executive Officer at Schena Ostomy Technologies, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical patent design.
Backed by his early education in electronic engineering and a career in financial services, Mr. Schena spearheaded Schena Ostomy Technologies, Inc. in 2003 as president and chief executive officer. After being diagnosed with colorectal cancer and going through radiation, Mr. Schena ended up with a permanent colostomy and he found it particularly obnoxious. Taking matters into his own hands, he built a pouch cleansing system, which is now patented, and commenced his company in order to help others. Having now designed numerous patents, Mr. Schena is the mind behind the colostomy bag, catalyst generator, colostomy bag cleaning system, wafer cutting tool and method, apparatus, and system for ostomy bag irrigation. Additionally, he designed a flow-through pouch, stoma surround ceiling, and more.
Notably, in 2003, Mr. Schena was part of the Million Dollar Round Table and attributes his success to his strong-willed personality, one that never quit. Today, he holds membership with his local Rotary, the United Ostomy Association of America, and the Estate Planning Council of Naples. In his work, Mr. Schena has found the most rewarding aspect has been the people who call him to thank him for coming up with products that help make their life palatable with what is not a pleasant situation. Originally having pouches that lasted three to five days, his design now lasts its users seven to 10 days. Prior to his endeavors in patenting, Mr. Schena worked for MetLife in New England for 14 years and in Florida for 17 years. Most recently, he served as the managing director from 1999 until commencing his retirement in 2002. Additionally, he graduated from American College in 1996, where he became an accredited instructor.
