Location: Lakeville, Minnesota, United States
Kari L. Bach, Co-Owner at Run N Fun, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in fitness retail.
Backed by a Master of Science in animal nutrition from the University of Minnesota from 1986, Ms. Bach worked as a dairy technical support specialist for Land O’Lakes, Inc. from 1987 to 1997. When she met her husband, Terry, who also worked at Land O’Lakes, they discovered a shared a passion for running and discussed possible business ventures surrounding the activity. Some years later, an opening in the retail community prompted the couple to take a leap of faith and open a running store. At a time when Land O’Lakes was experiencing mergers, Ms. Bach decided it was the right time to leave the company and fully devote her time their passion.
Since 1991, Ms. Bach has served as a co-owner of Run N Fun, a family-owned running store. Run N Fun is proud to offer a vast selection of apparel to elite and casual runners alike, including high school and college track athletes and even patients of physical therapy. Between three store locations in St. Paul, Woodbury and Burnsville, Ms. Bach manages nearly 40 employees, leads marketing initiatives and completes inventory purchasing, among other responsibilities. Devoted to helping the community, she and the company have been widely recognized for their service, which includes shoe donations to the homeless and local athletes in financial turmoil. Likewise, Ms. Bach serves on the committee for running and community walking events. Notably, Run N Fun was named Best of the Best of Running Stores in the State of Minnesota in 2010.
Looking back on her career, Ms. Bach finds the most rewarding part of her work to watch her full-time and part-time employees flourish as sales associates and in other capacities when they move on from the store. In addition, she especially enjoys putting smiles on customer’s faces when they find the perfect shoe or item for their specific needs. Ms. Bach attributes her success simply to her parents and the way she was raised. In five years’ time, she hopes to still be running her three stores while also looking for someone to carry on the legacy when it comes time for her retirement. The advice Ms. Bach can offer to the next generation of business owners is to work hard for what you want to pursue, as nothing successful comes with little effort. With this sentiment, success does not happen overnight and it is important to not get discouraged and remain optimistic.
