Lisa Holtz Odell, Dance Studio Owner at Starstruck Academy of Dance, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in dance education.
The owner and artistic director of Starstruck Academy of Dance in Centennial, Colorado since 1984, Ms. Odell has flourished as a dance instructor of all disciplines for more than 35 years. Since opening her studio at the age of 20, her dancers have gone on to perform in various productions, including the 1992 Olympics, Broadway shows, Hollywood films and more. Starstruck Dance Academy offers classes in ballet, tap, jumps/turns, hip hop, jazz, poms, lyrical/contemporary and technique, as well as little rockstars for three and four-year-olds. The studio has also been the training home for stars such as Keri Russell and Justin Timberlake. Likewise, Ms. Odell’s award-winning choreography can also be seen on many high school and college dance teams. Notably, she was featured on the cover of Dance Teacher Magazine and Starstruck Dance Academy was listed as a Top Studio in 2015, 2017 and 2018. Ms. Odell attributes her success simply to loving the art of dance and teaching kids to have confidence and believe in themselves.
Growing up in a small town in Boise, Idaho, Ms. Odell began dancing at the age of five and fell in love with every style of dance. By 13 years old, she joined a dance company and blossomed in her technique and artistry. She moved to Colorado at 20 years old and made it her mission to open up her own studio. Upon asking her father for some money to spearhead her studio, he declined but said he had great faith in her and this was something she had to independently. Ms. Odell taught dance at the local YMCA and got an offer from a parent to teach classes in the basement of their office building. The studio started as a blank canvas, as the flooring was raw and there were no mirrors, but she took the leap and commenced her classes. As the years passed, 25 students turned into 50 and then 70. By the time Ms. Odell had 100 students, she sought a larger studio space and hired more instructors.
Upon her civic duties, Ms. Odell has served on the advisory board for Hope Haven Rwanda since 2010. Founded by her best friend, Hope Haven Rwanda works to transform Rwandan families through a holistic approach to education and discipleship and actively demonstrates the love, hope and truth of Jesus Christ. Through the organization, Ms. Odell and her husband, Leighton, work with a school in Rwanda and send porridge, rice, beans and more for them to grow on their land. The school currently serves 635 kids on 10,000 acres of land and is positively influencing the lives of the children each day. Looking ahead in her career, Ms. Odell sees herself eventually stepping back from her studio and allowing her three daughters, Chanel, Briana and Kylie, to take over. In 2019, she opened up a costume company, Grace Design, and plans to continue running the business for the time being. In her spare time, Ms. Odell enjoys biking, hiking, snow and water skiing and spending time with her family.
