Kim Huong Truong, Owner and Manager at Hawaiian Nails & Spa, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in cosmetology.
At the age of six, Ms. Truong began polishing her own nails and remained infatuated by the beauty industry. Born and raised in Vietnam, she arrived in the United States in 1991 and pursued certification at the Blue Jade Beauty Center in Texas, which was owned and operated by a Vietnamese doctor.
Ms. Truong attended Jefferson Community College from 1992 to 1995 and obtained licenses to work on nails in Indiana and Kentucky in 1996, which allowed her to work part-time in salons. Likewise, from 1996 to 1999, she volunteered her time to the Law Office of Roman, Wise and Young that serviced the Vietnamese community in Louisville. Shortly thereafter, she received a legal assistant and light concept workshop certifications. Notably, the Blue Jade Beauty Center certified Ms. Truong in permanent makeup in 1997. In 2001, she received her a cosmetology license from the Hair Design School of Louisville and became certified as a makeup artist by the College of Physical Arts in Los Angeles. In 2005, she became certified in microdermabrasion.
Today, Ms. Truong is the owner and manager of Hawaiian Nails & Spa in Louisville, Kentucky. Upon spearheading her business in 1997, for the past 23 years, she has excelled in offering the best services to her clients throughout the community and beyond. Hawaiian Nails & Spa offers waxing, eyebrow fillers, eyelash extensions, microdermabrasion, facials, manicures, pedicures and more in relation to nail and hair services. Additionally, she has been a Nuskin executive since 2017. Prior to her business endeavor, Ms. Truong gained experience as the co-owner of Top Nails alongside her sister from 1996 to 1997, as the owner of LA Hair and Nail Mania from 1999 to 2001 and as the owner of Chrysalis Nail Studio from 2000 to 2004. In the latter role, she provided Obagi skincare lectures with Dr. Alexander Digenis, a plastic surgeon. Between 2005 and 2007, she contributed as an education assistant for Art Basham and Kim Reams.
Looking back on her businesses, Ms. Truong is proud to say each endeavor was a learning experience that offered the ability to improve in various areas of business operation and clientele outreach. With this sentiment, she attributes her success to being responsible and never settling for anything less than perfection. Ms. Truong is particularly fond of her hair and makeup assistance for Miss Vietnam Free World in 2003, organized by Van Son Production with Blue Jade Beauty Center sponsoring. In five years’ time, she intends to buy a building and launch a new skincare business. With Hawaiian Nails & Spa, she hopes to expand the business and offer more services to her loyal customers. Ms. Truong is exceptionally passionate about her work and envisions herself excelling in her cosmetology skills and management abilities for many years to come.
