John Ronney Watson, Co-Owner at Watson and Downs Investments, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in business and athletic coaching.
Since 1991, Mr. Watson has found success through Watson and Downs Investments, a family business established by his father in 1970. Serving as a co-owner, he is proud to work alongside his sister and nephew to maintain the family legacy in real estate investments. Moreover, Mr. Watson has excelled as a prolific and accomplished coach, having served as a boy’s basketball coach for five years, assistant head coach at Dothan High School for two years, head coach at Houston Academy for more than 15 years and women’s basketball coach for nearly 20 years. Having obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Troy University in 2006, Mr. Watson was subsequently honored as Coach of the Year by the Wiregrass Athletic Association and Basketball Coach of the Year by the Dothan Eagles, both in 2006. Notably, in 2020, he was inducted into the Houston Academy Hall of Fame.
A former board member for the George C. Wallace Community College Foundation and the Second Congressional District of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, Mr. Watson has also been active in administrative positions with Calvary Baptist Church, the Christian Board of Athletes, the George Washington Carver Museum and Girls Incorporated. He is also affiliated with the Alabama High School Athletic Association and the Rotary Club of Houston County. Passionate about balancing his responsibilities in business and coaching for decades, Mr. Watson is incredibly proud to have been active as a “people person” through helping others as a coach, businessman, mentor and friend. Looking toward the future, he hopes to continue coaching while dedicating his spare time to his three wonderful daughters.
