Dawnell Blackman, Owner at Camstar, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in entrepreneurship.
Matriculating at Southwestern Illinois College, Mr. Blackman received a Bachelor of Science in electronics and business management and a Master of Library and Information Science in accounting and business management in the 1980s. An entrepreneur of numerous endeavors, he has served as the owner of Camstar since 2013, as well as the owner of a towing company and a lawn care service company. Mr. Blackman has been self-employed for about 20 years, having previously worked for Jade Communications, a cable company, for 12 years. From this experience, he was able to become well known by big players in the industry and found the inspiration to become his own boss.
Reflecting on his career trajectory, Mr. Blackman attributes his success to working smarter, figuring out how to achieve top precision and being a self-motivator. With this sentiment, he has been driven and focused since commencing his professional career working in warehouses as a truck driver. The advice Mr. Blackman can pass to the next generation of professionals is to believe in yourself. He believes everything you reach for is backed by self-motivation, which makes it imperative to not be deterred if others try to persuade you to do anything other than your dreams. A donor to Saint Vincent in Nepal, he served as chairman of the board for Emmanuel Church. In five years’ time, Mr. Blackman envisions having more trucks and owning a tow yard for his towing company.
