Vicki Rickett, Owner at Kozy Mittens by Vicki, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in sewing.
Upon going through her divorce, Ms. Rickett needed a new source of income. Attempting to make the best out of a not so great situation, she got a business idea from a friend who showed her mittens that she sewed herself. Her friend gave her the mittens, told her to take them apart and figure out how to make them herself. It took her three months, but she figured it out. Ms. Rickett was a bus driver for 30 years, from 1980 to 2010, and noticed many of the kids with special needs did not have proper hand coverings. She started offering to make mittens for them. It has been word of mouth, they know to contact her and she would make them mittens to fit. She was happy that they no longer had to wrap their hands up in scarves or blankets.
In 2010, Ms. Rickett spearheaded Kozy Mittens by Vicki and has been running it ever since. Looking ahead, she envisions sees herself working for at least the next 10 years, but in that time, she hopes her business continues to grow. Likewise, she has also been the founder of Bags Bags Bags and Vicki’s Lunch Bucket, as well as the owner of Creative Caterers. Ms. Rickett’s advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to not give up. When she first started, she spent many hours wondering how she was going to fulfill the numerous orders she received. Nevertheless, with perseverance and focus, she just kept going and her business is still thriving to this day.
