Mr. Olds commenced his involvement in martial arts at the age of five. By age 15, he was a full-time instructor and when he was 18, he began his own program when he went to college. Mr. Olds’ grandfather was a professional boxer, as well as his great-grandfather who had been a Bare-Knuckle boxing champion of the northwest and a coach. His mother wanted him to follow their example and she later enrolled him and his two brothers in martial arts and a Taekwondo school. Ultimately, Mr. Olds was the only one to continue it, up to this day. After finishing college, he decided to move to Korea to study martial arts even further, as he was drawn to the effect that it has on the lives of others. Certain that he found his life calling teaching martial arts, he feels honored to help students grow from the ages of five to 50. From 1990 to 2013, he trained under various Masters of the martial arts.

Since 2016, Mr. Olds has excelled as the owner and head instructor of Rising Phoenix Martial Arts, LLC. In addition, since 2009, he has been the founder of Fountainhead. Previously, he was the master instructor of Singil Academy from 2010 to 2011, head instructor at USA Taekwondo: Sussex from 2009 to 2010, owner of Rising Phoenix Taekwondo, LLC from 2007 to 2012 and head instructor of the Rising Phoenix Taekwondo Fellowship from 2007 to 2010, to name a few. Utilizing a unique teaching approach that focuses on patience and understanding, Mr. Olds also ensures to teach the classic discipline that is necessary to the sport. He is proud to also teach leadership, life skills, hono and integrity.

Reflecting on his career, Mr. Olds considers his various achievement in martial arts to be the highlights of his career. These honors include earning second place in forms and fourth place in sparring at ATU Nationals in 2009 and earning second place sparring at the World Taekwondo Culture Expo: A Match in 2008. Additionally, being named state champion and competing at USTU Nationals in 1997, as well as being state champion and competing at USTU Nationals in 1993 were pivotal moments. As a testament to his success, Mr. Olds won a National Championship, an International Championship, a Korean Championship and received an International Medal.

Notably, Mr. Olds was inducted as a member of Abuk Taekwon Do and the Kukkiwon Promotion Board. He attributes his success to abilities as a teacher and a leader. Looking ahead, Mr. Olds is unsure where he will be in the next few years due to the uncertainty that COVID-19 has brought about. For now, he is focused on finding an additional location for his school and is in the process of writing a book. The subject of the book focuses on the division there is in the worlds of the martial arts community, such as standpoints from traditional martial arts, Taekwondo and karate.
