Lewis Houghtaling, President and Owner at Debrino Caulking Associates, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in construction and caulking.
Having accrued a distinguished 50 years of experience in his line of work, Mr. Houghtaling got his start as an apprentice for the Bricklayers Association in 1970 at the age of 19. Upon the passing of the owner of the company, he pondered whether to find a new job or to take over the company and become a small business owner. He continued to work for Ramon and Debrino for the next seven years while simultaneously negotiating with the owner’s estate, securing the rights to his name and company assets. Notably, Mr. Houghtaling became the president and owner of Debrino Caulking Associates in 1977.
Renowned in the Greater Albany, New York area, Debrino Caulking Associates offers commercial and industrial caulking, waterproofing, firestop protection, building restoration, foundation waterproofing and more. In his role, Mr. Houghtaling oversees the bidding process of jobs, meets customers, gets recommendations for repairs and conducts consultations. Under his leadership, the company’s value has grown from $90,000 to more than $19 million. For his consistent quality, he was the recipient of the Best National Restoration Rehabilitative Maintenance Project Award from the International Bricklayers Union, which he calls the highlight of his career. Likewise, he was granted an America’s Subcontractors Association Award. Mr. Houghtaling attributes his immense success simply to hard work.
To remain abreast of his industry, Mr. Houghtaling maintains affiliation with the Sealants Waterproofers Restoration Institute, Eastern Contractors Association, Engineers of Concrete Restoration Institute, Northeastern Contractors Association and America’s Subcontractors Association. Additionally, he serves as a trustee and board member to the Eastern Contractors Association, Irish American Heritage Museum and Bricklayers Pension and Welfare Fund. In five years’ time, Mr. Houghtaling hopes to settle into a well-deserved retirement.
