Upon undergoing a career shift, he excelled as a chief at a Marriott Hotel for seven years, leading him to ponder if establishing his own restaurant was in his future. Soon thereafter, Mr. Walters and his wife, Ella, opened EllaRay’s Café in Forestville, Maryland in 1994. Excelling as the chief executive officer, president and co-owner for more than 25 years, he and his wife have built an impeccable reputation in the greater Washington, D.C. area for their soul food. In this regard, Google rated EllaRay’s Café as the Number One for Soul Food in 2019.
Reflecting on his business’ success, Mr. Walters credits his uncle and aunt, Tony and Sally Hamilton, for instilling in him the importance of hard work, ethics and financial responsibility. He also cites the support of his parents and resilience of his wife as imperative for his own motivation and determination. Alongside his primary endeavor, he has also been active as a minister at the Church of God and Christ, Great Deliverance since 2003. A volunteer in his local community, he had also cooked for the Washington Redskins during their training camp for two years. Notably, he served in the U.S. Army from 1980 to 1982. In his spare time, Mr. Walters enjoys fishing and dedicating quality time to his family.
