S. Thomas Peters, President, Chief Executive Officer and Founder at Beale Street Blues Company and BB King’s Blues Clubs, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the food and entertainment industry.
Upon achieving a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting and finance from the University of Mississippi in 1977, Mr. Peters became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) the following year. In the early years of his career, he gained sound experience as a senior CPA for Touche Ross & Co. from 1977 to 1981. From there, he spearheaded the Progressive Capital Investment Corporation in 1982, finding great success until 1998. During this time, Mr. Peters was approached by John Elkington about revitalizing Beale Street, a historically Black entertainment street with roots in the early 1900s.
Since 1990, Mr. Peters has excelled as the president, chief executive officer and founder of Beale Street Blues Company and BB King’s Blues Clubs. Renowned for bringing tourism and life back to the Memphis entertainment district through delicious soul food and unique musical experiences, he attributes its grand success to his understanding of the relationship between music, food and impeccable service. Alongside this feat, Mr. Peters is also the founder and president of Itta Bena Restaurant, Lafayette’s Music Room, BSBC Entertainment Services and Moondance Grill.
Notably, Mr. Peters was the recipient of the Dick Gregory Humanitarian Award from the National Congress of Black Women for the 2020-2021 year. Inducted into the Beale Street Blues Company Street Musical Walk of Fame, he has also led the Lafayette Music Room to be honored for Top Place for Music in Memphis. In addition, Mr. Peters was named Beale Street Operator of the Year, Memphis Power Player and Brass Note on Beale Street. Along with these accolades, he cites the highlight of his career was being the only white pallbearer at BB King’s funeral after more than 25 years of friendship.
To remain abreast of his industry, Mr. Peters currently maintains affiliation with the Beale Street Merchants Association, Phi Delta Theta, Omicron Delta Kappa, Beta Alpha Psi and ODK Honorary Society. He also sits on the board for the Raising Together Foundation and the BB King Museum. Looking ahead, Mr. Peters hopes for his businesses and musicians to heal from the struggles of the COVID-19 pandemic. In his spare time, he enjoys listening to music, traveling, playing golf and watching sports.
