After leaving behind his corporate career, Mr. Way desired to spearhead a new endeavor that was fresh and exciting. In 2019, he became the co-owner of Island Fin Poke Company in Worcester, Massachusetts. Serving Hawaiian style poke with sustainably sourced fish, house-made sauces and more than 25 toppings in a cool, casual environment, Island Fin Poke transports its customers from the everyday to that surf shack on the beach. Responsible for all aspects of running a small business, Mr. Way also does the bookkeeping, marketing, hiring and training, running the daily operations and relationship building with guests and local community. Notably, he led his store to be listed in the Franchise Dictionary Magazine in 2020.
Mr. Way received a Bachelor of Science in management science and finance from Bridgewater State University in 1991. Deriving a prestigious career in sales and operations, he worked for Staples in Framingham, Massachusetts for illustrious years 18 years. Initially joining the company in 2000, Mr. Way was a financial planning analysis manager until 2008, an assistant store manager in 2004, a divisional operations manager of field operations from 2008 to 2014 and a manager of strategic labor initiatives for U.S. Stores, Labor & Workforce Planning from 2014 to 2018. Reflecting on his career thus far, Mr. Way attributes his success to treating all of his colleagues like family. In five years’ time, he plans to be running multiple Island Fin Poke locations, along with the overall expansion of the business.
