Vera Vaughn, President and Chief Executive Officer of Annandale Play-Care Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in daycare.
Due to the nature of her husband’s military career, Ms. Vaughn would often move bases and consistently found fulfillment in volunteering in the local schools. When the couple settled in Virginia, she decided to utilize her years of volunteering to spearhead a daycare. For the past 32 years, Ms. Vaughn has excelled as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Annandale Play-Care Inc. She provides preschool for two to five-year-olds and before and after-school programs for grades K-6, as well as summer programs. In addition to providing daycare services, she is proud to help nurture children’s relationships with peers and teachers while working to develop lasting and positive relationships with parents and families.
Reflecting on her illustrious career, Ms. Vaughn is honored to have received Child Care Center Community Awards consecutively from 2012 to 2019. She attributes her success to treating children as individuals and giving them broader experiences. Likewise, she works by her phrases, “Children are like sponges, as they absorb everything it is up to us to facilitate it correctly” and “it takes a minute to be mean but it takes no kind of effort to be kind.” To accompany her years of experience, Ms. Vaughn earned an Associate of Arts in child psychology from Harcum College and a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Strayer University in 2000. She is currently writing a book and aims to continue contributing to Catholic charities, Child Care Aware of America, and low-income families.
