Mr. Nichols is a certified insurance broker and entrepreneur with nearly five decades of expertise in the insurance industry and 20 years as the owner of Nichols Pond Insurance Agency. An expert in commercial casualty policies, high-value accounts, risk management and program administration, Mr. Nichols holds a Bachelor of Arts from Muskingum University and began his career in 1972 as an underwriter for United States Fidelity & Guaranty, rising to supervising underwriter in 1976. Over the next decade, he rose to executive positions with major firms including Murray, Schoen & Homer, Inc., American International Group, and A. Matarasso & Co., Inc., before becoming manager of directors and officers for Interstate Risk Management Group’s liability insurance department in 1990. Mr. Nichols continued to pursue specialized training to further his career, and in 1992, he was made a Life Underwriter Fellow of the National Association of Life Underwriters and a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter by the American Institute of Property Casualty Underwriters. Between 1994 and 2000, Mr. Nichols was the principal of Business Insurance and Risk Management Services while concurrently serving as an underwriter for Sieger & Smith and Utica First, and in 1996 he became a licensed New York State insurance broker and agent.
Building on his diverse background in insurance policy underwriting and executive leadership, Mr. Nichols opened Nichols Pond Insurance Agency in 2003, where he continues to offer clients outstanding service and coverage. He credits his early mentors Douglas Perry and John C. Howley for inspiring his interest in the insurance industry and plans to continue building his business for years to come. In recognition of his outstanding career and eminence in his field, Mr. Nichols has been presented with an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, among other accolades. As past president of his area Lions Club and Rotary Club chapters, Mr. Nichols is committed to community outreach and volunteerism. In his leisure time, he enjoys outdoor sports and amateur radio, and is active in the American Radio Relay League and the Amateur Radio Emergency Service.
