Dennis Cerutti, Director of Kumon Math and Reading Center of Brooklyn – Bay Ridge, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.
Mr. Cerutti is an award-winning tutor and teacher with more than two decades of experience helping his students master mathematics and technology skills they need to carry them through college and beyond. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in professional computer systems from Pace University and graduated in 2006 from Touro College with a Master of Science in instructional technology. Despite having a strong background in mathematics and several family members with careers in education, he explains his entry into teaching as “an accident.” While working at a golf course in Brooklyn, Mr. Cerutti was recruited by his mother, an assistant principal, to teach technology and honors mathematics to middle grades students at Lutheran Elementary School after a staff member quit unexpectedly. Though hesitant, Mr. Cerutti agreed to accept the position, planning to stay only through the school year. To his surprise, he fell in love with the field and stayed at the school for the next seven years, becoming a beloved member of the staff known for his ability to deliver individualized instruction to students.
In 2007, Mr. Cerutti left public schools to become an area manager for Kumon Math and Reading Centers supervising tutoring centers in Long Island, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. He has been the director and owner of the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Brooklyn – Bay Ridge since 2016, crediting his success to his ability to relate to students on a personal level and to the perspective that his combination of public school and after-school teaching experience has given him. In recognition of his dedication to his students and profession, Mr. Cerutti has been named Tutor of the Year and Best of Brooklyn Tutoring in 2014, 2018, 2020, and 2021. He remains enthusiastic about teaching and committed to helping each student enter the classroom confident and prepared for the demands of the curriculum, and looks forward to continuing his work for many years to come.
