Since 1979, Mr. Miller has been the owner and manager of ALK Miller Brothers, LLC, a Modesto-based almond ranch. Raised on an almond ranch by a family with a long tradition of agricultural work, Mr. Miller always assumed that he would grow up to pursue a career in farming. After high school, he began coursework at a local junior college in preparation to pursue a degree in agriculture at Fresno State before joining the family business. While a student at junior college, Mr. Miller met his future wife, eventually dropping out of school to get married, which accelerated his path to farming.
Initially, Mr. Miller started working with his father and preparing to continue the family business before starting an independent business with his wife. Named after his sons’ initials, ALK Miller Brothers LLC is a thriving farm with a unique style of output and production based on Mr. Miller’s decades of experience in the industry and the region. While Mr. Miller began his career exploring other types of farming and growing other crops, his passion is for growing almonds, and ALK Miller Brothers, LLC, currently outputs exclusively almonds. He explains his love for the intensive work of nurturing young almond trees and the deep base of knowledge required to succeed in raising them.
Mr. Miller credits his success to “blood, sweat, and tears,” and dedication to his goals. While every business has “drops of failure” at points, learning to overcome those failures and see them as opportunities for growth are key to succeeding as a business owner and a tradesman. Mr. Miller remains as excited and enthusiastic about his work as he was when he established his ranch, and has no intention of retiring as long as he is able to continue farming. When he is not focused on running ALK Miller Brothers, LLC, Mr. Miller is an active volunteer for Omega Nu.
