At the start of his career, Mr. Roeder took time off from school and pondered what path to pursue professionally. He joined the U.S. Navy and served as a fire controlman from 1997 to 2003, at which point he decided that he wished to join the family business in funeral services. Shortly after this epiphany, he conducted coursework at Metropolitan Community College, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and Midland University between 1996 and 2008.
In 2010, Mr. Roeder studied mortuary science and embalming at Des Moines Area Community College and earned a certification as a Funeral Director and Embalmer from the State of Nebraska. These credentials set him up to take on the family business at Roeder Mortuaries, Inc., which has served the Omaha community since 1912.
The fourth-generation Roeder to run the business, Mr. Roeder has excelled as the president, owner, and funeral director of Roeder Mortuaries, Inc. since 2020. He first joined the business in 2003 as a funeral home assistant before his promotion to funeral director in 2010, where he has ensured customers have the best experience during difficult times in their life. Notably, Roeder Mortuaries, Inc. has been named Best Funeral Home several years in a row.
Reflecting on his career thus far, Mr. Roeder attributes his success to both professional and personal mentors he had during his career. He is currently the president-elect of the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association, as well as a member of the Masons Lodge of Nebraska and a volunteer with local churches. Looking ahead, Mr. Roeder aims to continue improving funeral services, while also working to expand the business.
