James H. Gray, Owner at Ozark Driving School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in trucking and vocational education.
After serving proudly in the U.S. Navy for seven years, Mr. Gray went on to become a professional truck driver for several shipping companies across the United States. Recognized for his talent, he was eventually asked to train his fellow truck drivers, which inspired him to provide a dearly needed training service. In 2014, he established the Ozark Driving Institute, where he provides holistic training for people hoping to obtain their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), regardless of their level of experience. In addition, Mr. Gray teaches students how to perform minor truck repairs, writes contracts with various companies to provide students with jobs, and works with re-entry programs in various prison systems across the country. Looking ahead, he aims to acquire three more buildings and empower students from low-income areas by providing them with the training and career skills they need to succeed as truck drivers.
Finding great success throughout the course of his career, Mr. Gray has led the Ozark Driving Institute to be named Best of the Midwest by Midway Media Inc. in 2020. Additionally, he took home a Recognition Award from Reentry Resource in 2018, a Technician Award and was awarded by the Rising Star Program the State of Missouri. Reflecting on his achievements, Mr. Gray is most proud to have trained truckers who live with disabilities, including a person with cerebral palsy, who lacked the ability to use his right arm. After eight weeks of training, the man passed the licensure exam with no special accommodations and continues to work as a truck driver today. Mr. Gray is a member of the Commercial Vehicle Training Association and is backed by vocational training and coursework in gas turbine and car generator maintenance from the Ranken Technical Institute in St. Louis, Missouri.
