Steve L. Gillaspie, Founder at Veterans on the Water, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of entrepreneurship.
Drawing on several decades of experience as the owner of more than 30 businesses, Mr. Gillaspie has garnered a reputation as the founder and owner of Veterans on the Water, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that offers cost-free fishing trips to veterans. Since 2015, the group has conducted 250 trips with hundreds of veterans, utilizing disused fishing boats and readying them for a new purpose. In order to sustain Veterans on the Water, Mr. Gillaspie also manages the Veterans Mess Hall, a restaurant with military-themed dishes that will open after the COVID-19 pandemic has passed. Likewise, he has owned Digital House, a print shop that mostly produces booklets, since 1994.
Mr. Gillaspie first enlisted with the military during the Vietnam War, having never attended high school. Serving with bravery with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade in a heavy combat zone, he rose to the rank of a staff sergeant and became an Army Ranger, earning both a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his gallantry. Since departing from the service, Mr. Gillaspie has continued his works in public service as the vice president and president of his local Chamber of Commerce, and as a member of the Disabled American Veterans Charity organization.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Mr. Gillaspie enjoys such pastimes as fishing, which fueled his resolve to help other veterans find comradery and togetherness through their shared hobby. Looking toward the future, he aspires to expand his operations to other states, and hopes to establish Veterans on the Water in Wisconsin sometime in 2021.
