Woody Martin Pursch, Owner at Country Flyfisher Shop, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in fly fishing.
For the past 21 years, Mr. Pursch has owned the Country Flyfishing Shop in Fredericksburg, Texas, where he specialized in fly tying materials and hand-tied flies for rivers, lakes, and Gulf Coast saltwater. In addition, he teaches fly fishing at the shop, through community education, and with clubs such as Hill Country Fly Fishers and Texas Women’s Fly Fishers. He also teaches on occasion at Texas Parks and Wildlife.
Mr. Pursch earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing from Texas A&M University in 1956 and went on to own and manage an independent restaurant, the Country Café, for 16 years. Mr. Pursch retired in 2000 to pursue his lifelong dream of opening his own fly shop. A native Texan, he developed his love for flyfishing and tying flies while living in Washington State in 1973 and has fished throughout the Western United States and parts of Canada. Today, he continues to enjoy all types of fly fishing, including casting for bass and pan fish or kayaking for trout and red fish along the Texas Gulf Coast. In his spare time, Mr. Pursch enjoys spending time with his family, which includes his wife of 35 years, his four children Cara, Becky, Keith and Sarah and his six grandchildren.
