Since 2016, Mr. Burns has been the executive director of Join Hands Ministry, a contact and support center for persons living in Perry County who are seeking assistance with daily living concerns, and a central hub for Perry County churches. The organization provides faith-based counseling, one-on-one mentoring, life skill support, financial planning, moving assistance, auto repair, and other services. The Join Hands network consists of over 80 churches, over 200 individuals/families, over 20 businesses, over 20 civic groups and over 10 private foundations.
Mr. Burns attributes his success to his mother, a fifth-generation butcher who worked in his grandfather’s butcher shop. From when he was the age of six, she taught him how to respect people no matter their color, race, or place in life. Mr. Burns obtained a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and child development from Whittier College in Los Angeles and a Master of Arts in theology with focus on youth and community from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He has serves as the pastor of Watts Wesleyan Church, drug and alcohol counselor/program manager and safe crisis management trainer. He takes pride in his 13 years as assistant lacrosse coach at Susquehanna University of Pennsylvania, Salinsgrove, during which his 2018 team had the number one man down defense in the NCAA.
Mr. Burns’s goal for the next five years is to expand the ministry into adjoining Juniata County, and to complete his second master’s degree in the next three years.
