Title: Owner, Chef
Company: Osteria Poggio
Location: Laconia, New Hampshire, United States
Kaylon Sweet, Owner at Osteria Poggio, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in restaurant management.
Since 2017, Mr. Sweet has prospered as the owner and chef of the highly-rated Osteria Poggio in Center Harbor, an Italian-themed restaurant that sets itself apart by creating bold dishes and flavors with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, obtaining produce, dairy, seafood, and meats from local farms including PT Farm in North Haverhill, Moulton Farm in Meredith, Meadow View Farm in Gilmanton and Local Provisions in Laconia. Osteria Poggio was rated one of the Top 10 Best New Restaurants in New Hampshire Magazine in 2020.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Sweet partnered with the Holy Trinity School in Laconia to provide a “farm to school” food program in which meats, fruits and vegetables would be purchased directly from local farmers. Then, he and one of his chefs would spend a day each week preparing meals and volunteers and students would heat and serve the prepared meals each day. Notably, more than 9,000 free meals have been prepared and distributed to individuals and families.
Mr. Sweet’s culinary journey began while he was working a late-night shift at McDonald’s. He had the opportunity to prepare foods such as enchiladas and quesadillas and discovered he had a desire to become a chef. He gradually honed his craft and attended culinary schools at New Hampshire University and the prestigious Apicius School of Hospitality in Florence, Italy, and excelled with the staff of The Beer House in New York and Laconia Local Eatery in New Hampshire, having also been head chef with Wanakee summer camp. In the coming years, Mr. Sweet intends to expand Osteria Poggio’s outreach program and continue to help provide meals to underserved members of the community.
