Robert E. Bruce Shearer, owner of Shearer Safety Services, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in occupational safety.
Mr. Shearer is a construction safety consultant and entrepreneur. Since 2012, he has been the owner of Shearer Safety Services, a company providing clients with construction safety audits, reports, and training services including building safety and drug-free jobsite workshops. As a young union ironworker and apprenticeship instructor, he developed a deep understanding of the impact that appropriate safety measures can have on workers and took his first OSHA certification class with union sponsorship. From 1980 until 1986, Mr. Shearer was an associate of Wells and Bridges, and in 1997, he was named the Executive Director of SHIELD, Inc.
He served as the Director of Safety for Associated General Contractors of Ohio from 2004 until 2012 when he started Shearer Safety Services. Mr. Shearer credits his success to his ongoing passion for his work and considers his greatest accomplishment to be his work developing the Arena Safety Program for AK Steel, which ended an eight-year pattern of high employee fatality rates by implementing drug testing and other safety measures. The program was later awarded the National Safety Council’s Green Cross Award. Mr. Shearer holds an associate’s degree from Sinclair College and a certificate in civil construction technology. He is active in the Ohio Society for Safety Engineers and OSHA and works with area organizations dedicated to wildlife preservation and serving disabled veterans.
