Chris Uyehara, Owner at Last Shot Distillery, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in quality spirits production.
In 2015, Mr. Uyehara teamed with partners to acquire a former paper mill, factory and distillery in Skaneateles and established Last Shot Distillery. Purchasing corn, wheat and other crops from local farmers, he produces two clear whiskeys, Moonshine and Lightning, a variety of white and flavored whiskey, vodka, gin and bourbon as well as a 100 percent maple syrup spirit. Last Shot also crafts two creamy liqueurs, a Chocolate Creme brûlée made with bourbon and Orange Cream Lightning, produced with the Lightning whiskey.
In 2021, Last Shot was the victor in The Discovery Channel’s “Moonshiners: Master Distiller” competition with a Japanese-style whiskey. The distillery has accrued several accolades in recent years, having placed in both the Camp Good Days Finger Lakes International Wine Competition and the Great American International Spirits Competition and was additionally celebrated with the Seattle International Spirit Award. Last Shot Distillery was further recognized among the Top 100 Spirits by Wine Enthusiast Magazine and The Fifty Best Liqueur Rankings.
Before producing quality liquor, Mr. Uyehara was a renowned pastry chef. After a successful stint operating a pastry business with his wife in New York City, he excelled as a pastry chef with Patisserie and Rosalie’s Cucina in Skaneateles, New York from 1997 to 2005, Savannah Dhu in Clyde from 2005 to 2009 and a chef with Bistro 1 in Auburn in 2008. His other talents include candymaking and he is also a professional ice carver, and he has also made an impact as a chef instructor in nutrition and food studies with Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics at Syracuse University since 2006. Among his greatest career accomplishments, he is incredibly proud of teaching students life skills. In coming years, Mr. Uyehara aspires to build a stellar reputation for his distillery by ensuring that they make the best product consistently and hopes to focus on the business as to better support his impending retirement from Falk College.
