Joseph Edward Louis Brierly, Ph.D., Retired Industrial Engineer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in industrial engineering and small business ownership.
After initially obtaining an Associate of Arts in engineering from Henry Ford College in Dearborn, Michigan in 1960, Dr. Brierly followed with a Bachelor of Arts in 1963, a Master of Arts in 1966 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1975 from Wayne State University in Detroit.
Dr. Brierly has provided superior education as a professor at Lawrence Institute in Southfield from 1967 to 1971, a teaching assistant with Wayne State University from 1972 to 1974, an instructor with the University Michigan in 1975, and a civilian industrial engineer with the United States Army Tank-Automotive Command in Warren, Michigan from 1976 to 1997, returning to the University of Detroit that year as an assistant professor. His professional memberships include the American Mathematical Society, Mathematical Association of America, Army Operations Research Society, Society of Logistics Engineers and Operations Research Society of America. Now retired, Dr. Brierly owns eBay and Etsy stores where he sells hard-to-find items such as LP records, pottery, antique and vintage books, self-designed lottery and horse racing software, home decor, and many collectible type items.
Dr. Brierly attributes his success to hard work dedicated to discovering truths. He saw education as the road to success in life and discovered that he had a gift for doing and learning mathematics and enjoyed helping others to find the same enthusiasm for science and mathematics. He is currently publishing engineering and science articles and composing music as a hobby, which he will continue in the coming years.
