Gordon “Mike” Perea

Title: Safety Supervisor
Company: HPNMO Navajo Mine
Location: Rio Rancho, New Mexico, United States

Gordon “Mike” Perea, Safety Supervisor at HPNMO Navajo Mine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mine operations and safety.

Mr. Perea has provided superior service as mining department supervisor with BHP Navajo Mine since 1991, serving as senior weld shop and safety supervisor from 1998 to 2012. During his tenure, he made equipment improvements such as hydraulic lift cylinders, fold-up steps for Caterpillar crawler bulldozers and retainer pins that augmented overall performance. He has accrued awards as top producing supervisor and in mine safety. Prior to joining HPNMO Navajo Mine, he served his country in the United States Army for seven years. Mr. Perea’s professional memberships include the Coal Mine Supervisor of America and the Mine Operators Association.

Mr. Perea attributes his success to continual education and his training in mine safety. He became involved in his profession after attending a welding and mechanics school, yet thought he needed to focus on something different from everybody else and decided to parlay his interest in working with large equipment. He is especially proud of his service record with just four accidents in all of his career with Navajo Mine.
