Since 1990, Ms. Simonian has thrived as an accountant, travel agent and tax preparer with Flora Accounting, the firm she founded in Sunnyside, New York in which she assists individual clients and small businesses with accounting, translation, preparation of immigration documents, divorce filings, notary public duties and preparation of documents for selling and reincorporation of businesses
Born in Romania, Ms. Simonian acquired degrees in music with a concentration on playing violin and piano, as well as accounting and finance in her native country before immigrating to the United States in 1974. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in accounting and business management in 1983 from the New York University Stern School of Business, she continued her education with a Master of Business Administration in accounting and business management from New York University in 1985. Prior to founding Flora Accounting, Ms. Simonian flourished as a restaurateur with Crema Pestera in Sunnyside and as a freelance accountant and translator and with Flora and George Tours and Travel. She has been a member of the National Association for Female Executives for four decades.
Keenly involved in her community, Ms. Simonian volunteers, bakes, cooks and collects donations to help churches, hospitals and schools in Armenian and Romanian communities. She believes that her ability to communicate, coupled with her strong nurturing attributes, made her a successful business owner. She is able to deliver good results through her expertise in accounting, finance and management, which has helped her build her clients’ trust. The repeat patronage and referrals Ms. Simonian has enjoyed through the years attest to the quality of her services and how much they value her.
Ms. Simonian feels gratified to have received appreciation and compliments from her clients, who come from all over the country. She has helped many through her services and expertise, encouraging people and providing useful advice to grow their businesses. Graduating from college was a huge achievement for her, having left her country, Romania, to flee from communism. She recalls a bitter memory of walking on the streets while crying, overwhelmed by the chaos in her country. Fortunately, a kind woman inspired her to obtain formal education, learn English and be whatever she wanted to be.
In the near future, Ms. Simonian hopes to be able to travel more. She has experienced touring Europe a few years ago and wants to be able to do it again and visit other places.
