Since 2013, Mr. Jolstad has provided superior service as the principal of Olie R. Jolstad & Associates LLC. In this position, he is responsible for expert witness litigation support services regarding claims handling, insurance agent/broker standard of care, and other insurance industry customs, practices and standards. He also provides insurance program reviews for commercial risks, performing claims reviews and audits on behalf of clients. Mr. Jolstad has been retained in more than 225 cases as an expert witness and testified in over two dozen trials and arbitrations in the past 20 years.
Mr. Jolstad was initially interested in a career in sports medicine but found his career calling when an insurance company was seeking people with medical training backgrounds for a benefits analyst position, and he was hired without experience in the industry. He provided superior service as a claims examiner from 1980 to 1984 with Industrial Indemnity Company in Portland, as an assistant supervisor adjusting complex and litigation claims from 1984 to 1988 with Safeco Insurance Company, and as assistant vice president from 1988 to 1994 with Alexander & Alexander, the second largest insurance brokerage company, where he captured an Adjuster of the Year honor.
Mr. Jolstad obtained a Bachelor of Science in administration of justice in 1991 from Portland State University and was later certified as a senior claim law associate by the American Educational Institute. From 1994 through 2013, he was recruited to act as vice president and director of risk management for Maclean Oddy & Associates, Inc. and Robert Hughes Associates, Inc. prior to starting his own company in 2013.
According to Mr. Jolstad, his career highlight has been the diversification of the types of insurance and insurance litigation with which he has experienced, and a second highlight would be starting his own business in 2013. In the coming years, he intends to continue to assist others with their insurance issues, help those in need and support his family and friends.
