Company: Lady Dorothy Boutique
Location: Whiteville, North Carolina, United States
Sheila Bryan Carter, Owner at Lady Dorothy Boutique, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in entrepreneurship.
Since 2020, Ms. Carter has prospered as owner and operator of Lady Dorothy Boutique, a premier women’s apparel shop in Whiteville she founded and named in honor of her mother Dorothy, who had passed away at the young age of 44. Lady Dorothy Boutique offers affordable, quality fashions in the latest styles as well as accessories, from jewelry to handbags, beauty aids and more.
Prior to founding Lady Dorothy Boutique, Ms. Carter managed retail stores and co-owned a Radio Shack in 1999 and Xtreme Wireless franchise since 2004. She attributes her success to her drive, honesty and to being forthright. Having a personal connection with her customers and forging relationships with them has always been very important to her.
Being able to thrive as an entrepreneur in a male-dominated field in a place that is considered to be one of the underserved counties in North Carolina over the years is Ms. Carter’s most notable achievement. Overcoming the challenges that she encountered for being sexually harassed by the owner of the retail store she worked for is another accomplishment. Surmounting difficulties and empowering herself has been the most significant accomplishment to her. To this day, her goal as an entrepreneur has always been to provide a safe working environment and provide an opportunity for young women to succeed, since 90% of employees in her business are composed of young women.
In the coming years, Ms. Carter hopes to continue to grow the business and maintain its profitability for her children. She also hopes to continue to guide her children and make the business self-sustainable. Additionally, she plans to come to Little River and open a boutique or a cellphone repair shop.
