After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1961 from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where he finished first in his class, Mr. Hunter completed graduate studies in engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and later continued his education with a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 1968. Mr. Hunter served his country as a first lieutenant with the United States Army from 1962 to 1964.
From 1968 to 1981, Mr. Hunter prospered as a real estate manager and planner of Riverchase, a 3000-acre planned community in Birmingham, Alabama, and as a partner in the Riverchase Galleria from 1986 to 1992. Since 1981, he has provided superior service as president of Hunter & Associates Inc., a premier real estate development and building company with projects currently in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Highlands and Cashiers, North Carolina.
As a career highlight, Mr. Hunter mentions being hired while completing his education from Harvard Business School to manage a 3,000-acre tract of land south of Birmingham, Alabama. He is also proud to have been selected as a National Merit Scholar, one of only 700 in the entire country. They built the area into a planned community that now houses 15,000 residents and another 15,000 who work there. The large mall was part of the development. His favorite project is the current mountain developments west of North Carolina to which he has been devoting himself. The condominiums he built on the beaches of the Florida panhandle also gave him a great sense of gratification.
