Hailing from Togo, Mr. Djagou obtained bachelor’s degrees in business, management and related support services in 2009 and 2011. He then studied English as a Second Language (ESL) at Black Hawk College in Galva, Illinois for a year and later trained with Chicago MBDA Export Center and earned certificates in project management from Muscatine Community College Program, Iowa State University and in project management from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program.
After immigrating to the United States, Mr. Djagou provided superior service as a machine operator with Tyson Foods Inc. from 2012 to 2014 and with Allsteel Inc., HNI Corporation from 2015 to 2019. In 2017, he founded Djaagou-A Export LLC, a premier international trade company headquartered in Muscatine, whose core service is the distribution of essentials, goods, and services to wholesale and retail operations around the globe that are essential to facilitating the livelihood of global population and economic growth. The firm’s main distribution is to clients in need of unobtainable commodities within the food and energy markets in their regions.
With Djaagou-A Export LLC , Mr. Djagou’s responsibilities include managing his retail store and contractual employees, fulfilling administrative duties, conducting meetings with partners in Asia, Africa and the Middle East and participating in a government program that helps businesses export goods from the United States to countries across the globe.
Djaagou-A Export has been named Exporter of the Year, by the Iowa Small Business Administration in 2022 and the Best Import and Export Business in Muscatine. Mr. Djagou is a member of the Food Export Association of the Midwest, an organization that implements a government program that helps businesses in the United States export their goods to other countries. In addition, he is a member of an African community organization that assists African Americans who need help being integrated into their communities.
Mr. Djagou believes in working hard to develop Djaagou-A Export and turn it into an impactful establishment in his community. He is grateful for the assistance he receives from the Small Business Administration (SBA) through its loan programs and other supplemental support it has provided to ensure the growth of his business. Mr. Djagou, who speaks four languages (English, French, Ewe and Ife), prides himself the most on being his own boss, which is a huge improvement from his previous career experience working for another company. Since he started his company in 2017, he has grown its annual revenue from $15,000 to $250,000.
Mr. Djagou is confident that, in two or three years, Djaagou-A Export will have become a more established entity in the export sector. Company revenues have multiplied by almost 17 times since he started it five years ago, and he plans to continue to grow it into a formidable business within the industry.
