A consummate worker dedicated to optimizing the performance of his company, Mr. Reyes has excelled as the sole owner of Birrieria Ocotlan since 2021. While working every day of the week, he is responsible for ordering supplies and working with purveyors, as well as scheduling, finances, and securing appropriate licensing for the restaurant. Prior to taking over the family business when his father became ill five years ago, Mr. Reyes served as manager and co-owner of the company. He additionally thrived as the founder, president and manager of Rage Management LLC from 2010 to 2012 and served an internship with Alderman Billy Ocasio from 2008 to 2009.
Upon graduating from high school, Mr. Reyes’ career interests initially were tied to political science. He earned an associate degree in political science from the University of Illinois Chicago in 2011 after successfully completing coursework in the same area of study at Purdue University in 2007.
Mr. Reyes’ restaurant earned a Third Place Award in the category of Best Independent Mexican Restaurant Nationwide in 2021. He attributes his profound success to the foundation that his parents established in their family, as well as the hard work ethic and morals that he was taught throughout his childhood. His father is his foundation for business and human behavior, while his mother taught him love, care and compassion, and his academic pursuits were inspired by his father and sisters.
Mr. Reyes is especially proud that he was able to keep his two restaurant locations fully staffed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the next five years, he plans to continue to grow his business and hopes to open additional locations. Passionate about the welfare of his community, Mr. Reyes has taken on charity work for Concordia and is a donor to St. Jude Medical Center. To keep abreast of developments in his industry, he maintains a membership with the Illinois Restaurant Association.
