Doug Kelder, Retired Deputy Fire Marshal at the Northbrook Fire Department, and Retired Owner and Private Detective at Kelder Investigations, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in private investigation and firefighting.
Now retired, Mr. Kelder excelled as a private detective at his company, Kelder Investigations, for four years. Prior to this role, he spent more than 20 years as deputy fire marshal for the Northbrook Fire Department. Mr. Kelder served with the United States Navy from 1971 to 1974 and is a Certified Emergency Medical Technician. In preparation for his career, he attended the St. John’s Military Academy and graduated from Harper College with an Associate of Applied Science in fire science technology in 1976.
In recognition of his success, Mr. Kelder earned a Meritorious Service Award from the Northbrook Fire Department in 1996 and a Meritorious Service Commendation from the Navy in 1973. He attributes his success to his tenacity and drive to discover the truth. Among his accomplishments, Mr. Kelder is proudest of helping secure a national recall for a flammable sweater after it caught fire and burned two people. The sweater caught fire after one victim reached over a candle. Mr. Kelder found it didn’t meet national flammability standards and reported it to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing and ice fishing.
