With decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Salerno has excelled as the president of the Omni Air Group, a business focusing on improving aviation safety management systems within regulatory compliance standards, since 1997. He likewise found success as the co-creator of the OmniSMS Aviation Management System since 2015 and the eLearning course “Intro to Accident Investigation” since 2014. Prior to this appointment, he was active as the owner, operator, director of operations, chief pilot, chief inspector, instructor and airman for Salair Air Cargo Inc. between 1980 and 1998, working alongside his brother and father in administrative positions during this time. He began his career as an A&P mechanic in 1979. Beyond his primary responsibilities, Mr. Salerno contributes to such organizations as Feed the Children, Doctors Without Borders and the Islamic Relief Fund.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Salerno pursued an education at South Seattle College, from which he earned an Associate of Applied Science in aviation maintenance technology in 1978. He subsequently concluded his studies at Central Washington University in 1980, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in aerospace science. He attributes his success to the influence of his parents, as his father taught him how to fix things, including automotive mechanics, and established him as a “do-it-yourself”-type businessman. Among the many highlights of his career, he is incredibly proud of developing the OmniSMS Aviation Safety Management System as well as his passion for helping aviation companies manage their safety systems through FAA’s Part 5 and SMS Voluntary Program. Looking toward the future, Mr. Salerno hopes to install a line of succession for Omni Air Group as he approaches an impending retirement.
