Always trying to make a difference in his community, Mr. Sullivan has been the owner of Jerry’s Barber Shop, located in both Kinde and Bad Axe, Michigan, since 1963. During this time, he has held many other positions, starting with serving as a purchasing agent at Thumb Electrical Cooperative in Ubly, Michigan, from 1966 to 1979. The treasurer of the Colfax Township in Bad Axe from 1979 to 1990, some of his most notable roles include rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service from 1982 to 1998, region manager of Primerica Financial Services from 1985 to 2008, and senior member of GNLD International from 2013 to 2015, among myriad others. Prior to the start of his career, Mr. Sullivan served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 and pursued a formal education at the University of Detroit Mercy, completing coursework between 1957 and 1958. He then completed additional coursework at Highland Park Community College between 1959 and 1960, as well as Central Michigan University.
Active in his local community, Mr. Sullivan led the Boy Scouts of America in Bad Axe from 1975 to 1977 and was president of the Huron County Township Association from 1988 to 1990, as well as a Eucharistic minister and lector with the Ushers Club at Sacred Heart Church. More recently, he was featured in National Profile Plus Magazine in 2017, as well as in the article, “Area Barber Makes Cover of Business Magazine,” in the Huron Daily Tribune in June 2019. A member of various organizations related to his field, Mr. Sullivan currently serves as state secretary of the Michigan Division of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association since 1999 and president of the Tip of the Thumb Dance Club since 2009.
In light of his many achievements, Mr. Sullivan was voted Most Famous Classmate, and he is the recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, alongside the Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award. In 2017, he was also honored by the National Profile Plus. Mr. Sullivan is further listed in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who in the World.
