Ms. Munnerlyn became involved with her profession simply due to her interest and passion for writing. Having also been exposed to holistic treatments through her Native American and African American roots, she developed a deep appreciation for the craft. Now a renowned author in her field, Ms. Munnerlyn explores various life topics in her numerous publications. In particular, her work, “Food for Thought” describes her upbringing, cultural influences and ways to embrace the authenticity of life. She attributes her success to her listening skills, as well as the exposure she had to children’s literature through her family members.
Prior to her spearheading her career as an author, Ms. Munnerlyn worked as a director, translator and researcher for a play about Puerto Rican culture in 1987. Additionally, she excelled as a reading tutor for college students from 1975 to 1976, as well as for grade school students from 1974 to 1975. Following her high school graduation, Ms. Munnerlyn earned certificates from The Lafayette Academy and the Albert Merrill School in 1973 and 1977, respectively.
As a testament to her success, Ms. Munnerlyn has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including an Editor’s Choice Award, a Poetry Ambassador Award and an Award for Exemplary Performance. Outside of her primary endeavors, Ms. Munnerlyn enjoys listening to music, dancing, singing and taking in nature in her spare time. In five years’ time, Mrs. Munnerlyn intends to continue writing and publishing.
