Since 1998, Mr. Nip has owned and operated Selective Stone LLC, a premier building materials supply company in Honolulu that specializes in stone, porcelain, LVT flooring and quartz pre-fabricated counter tops, offering an exclusive stock of hardscape materials in dimensional and random flagging from our own quarry that include quartz, sandstone, lava, slate, limestone and basalt. In addition, the firm offers a wide selection of stone care products such as setting materials, stone sealers, polishers, grouts, strippers and fabrication tools. Selective Stone LLC was named Best in Hawaii and No. 1 in Stone and Tile by KITV-TV and in 2021, Mr. Nip was honored as the Best Countertop Supplier by Reader’s Choice.
With Selective Stone LLC, Mr. Nip oversees marketing, project coordination and logistics of supplying flooring and countertop products for commercial and residential new and re-model construction and manages a staff of 15 employees within three departments: sales, administration, and warehouse. To remain aware of changes and advancements in his field, he maintains affiliation with the Natural Stone Institute, the Tile Contractors Association of Hawaii and the Na Pali Haweo Community Association.
Following obtaining a Bachelor of Science in sociology and political science in 1977 from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, Mr. Nip transported stones from the Philippines to Hawaii and eventually completed a $250,000 project with a partnership for a project in Oahu, which sparked his interest in distributing quality stone products.
As a career highlight, Mr. Nip cites supplying walkway stones for a large remodeling project in Waikiki about 15 years ago. Every time he walks on it, he remembers his participation in the improvement of the iconic spot. He has attributed his professional success over the years to his dedicated employees, his wife, clients and support team. In the coming years, Mr. Nip is looking forward to a well-deserved retirement.
