With 45 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Henry has excelled as the owner and personal fitness trainer for MA’s House of Fitness LLC in Tacoma, Washington since 2017. Prior to this appointment, she found success in the field of commercial insurance for nearly 40 years, beginning her career as a mail clerk with Safeco Insurance in Seattle, Washington. Later working with Safeco in a number of positions, including as the commercial underwriting support staff manager for more than a decade, Ms. Henry decided to establish her fitness training business in memory of her late biological child, Marland, who had exhibited a passion for exercise and physical fitness for his entire life.
Attributing her success to the influence of her family and friends, Ms. Henry’s life has been given a new purpose with MA’s House of Fitness, as it has allowed her to improve the health of others so that they may live fuller lives while providing her with a place of peace and comfort, which enables her to manage her grief. Harboring a longstanding connection to her physical well-being, she initially connected to exercise through dancelike aerobics classes before shifting her focus to resistance machines and free weights. In fact, Ms. Henry’s undeniable passion for physical fitness has aided her in devoting so much of her time and attention to her work with MA’s House of Fitness, including the business aspect of her operations.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Henry pursued an education at Grambling College in Louisiana, where she completed coursework in social work. She continued her academic efforts at Saddleback College, from which she earned an Associate of Arts in 1993. She concluded her formal studies at California State University, Fullerton, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1998. Following these accomplishments, Ms. Henry graduated from the Fitness Trainer Program at Ashmead College in 2007, garnered her personal training certification from the American College of Sports Medicine in 2008 and became certified as a senior fitness consultant in 2020.
Ms. Henry is incredibly proud of her stellar work ethic, as she is committed 100 percent of herself to reviewing training plans, addressing customer service issues and ensuring all needs inside and outside of her gym are met. Among the many highlights of her career, she is exceptionally grateful to see her customers achieve greater physical health as a result of her efforts, whether that be lowering their blood pressure, losing weight or curing their neuropathy or acid reflux. She also fondly recalls leading the warm-up exercises for the men’s softball teams at the USA Special Olympic Games in 2018. Looking toward the future, Ms. Henry hopes to continue accruing certifications in nutrition while fostering the welcoming and intimate environment of her gym.
