Caitlin E. Horton, Winemaker at Horton Vineyards, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the wine and spirits industry.

Since 2021, Ms. Horton has excelled as a winemaker with Horton Vineyards in Gordonsville, Virginia. With a lifelong interest in wine, her work with the aforementioned vineyards has garnered much acclaim, having been featured in The Washington Post, Viva Weekly, Virginia Living and Gone in the Garden. Furthermore, Ms. Horton has been presented with Silver Awards as a testament to her exceptional professional efforts.

Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Horton pursued an education at Keiser University, having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2020. She subsequently obtained her certification in winemaking from Cornell University in 2022. Ms. Horton has also fostered her wealth of knowledge under the tutelage of multiple mentors within her community during the 2021 harvest.

Ms. Horton was additionally drawn to her field by the influence of her grandparents, who made fruit wine in their cabin basement and eventually entered the wine business, investing in a winery and leasing Montdomaine Winery. Notably, her grandfather ultimately introduced grapes that are now considered staples of such brands as The Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Tannat, Grenache and Petit Manseng, among others. Moreover, Ms. Horton’s grandmother was a recipient of the Monteith Award, which is considered among the most prestigious accolades in the wine industry.

Ms. Horton attributes her success to not following current trends in winemaking and refusing to become complacent, as her grandparents went above and beyond to rejuvenate their viticulture when certain varieties of grapes did not grow well. Among the many highlights of her career, she is proud of how her team has communicated and operated under pressure and staff constraints. Looking toward the future, Ms. Horton hopes to continue building upon the legacy of her grandparents by producing high-quality wines and expanding their current product line.
