A former elementary school and community college teacher, Ms. Legner earned a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Radford University in 1966 and a Master of Arts in early childhood education from the University of Virginia in 1976. She is additionally certified in nursery education and special education as a reading specialist. The recipient of an Outstanding Teacher Award, Ms. Legner worked in the field of education as a teacher and school administrator from 1966 until her retirement in 2007.
Ms. Legner and her business partners purchased Timberlake Tavern in 2020. Located in central Virginia, the Timberlake Tavern is a historic hotel and event center overlooking a quiet 60-acre lake community. The original brick-and-wood structure, completed in 1929, offered summer entertainment through the 1940s until 1951. It has likewise served as a worship center and first home for Timberlake United Methodist Church, a meeting place for clubs and service groups, and was a private home for a number of years.
After purchasing the Timberlake Tavern. Ms. Legner and her partners financed and oversaw renovations which were completed in 2021. In its current state, the facility offers indoor and outdoor celebration spaces, overnight accommodations, weekend stays, and fully-furnished apartments. Moreover, it is a resort destination for weddings, conventions, retreats, and other events.
As a native Virginian, Ms. Legner is proud to be associated with the historic and celebrated Timberlake Tavern. She continues to refine and renovate the facility using her own craftmanship and creativity. Ms. Legner plans to create a legacy for the Timberlake Tavern that will last well into the next century while consulting and pursuing her passion for sailing in the coming years.
