Driven by deep and abiding belief in the power of storytelling, Mr. Young has distinguished himself as an expert photographer, videographer, and drone pilot. Having previously worked as a bond trader and portfolio manager for an insurance company for nearly a decade, he resolved to harness his creative passion by establishing The 5 and 2 Project, a video production company, in 2018. Named for the story of Matthew, The 5 and 2 Project works to capture and spread the stories of people through the visual medium. Well-regarded for his accomplishments in this capacity, Mr. Young has won numerous accolades, including a BOB Award by Charlotte Magazine, recognition among the 40 Over 40 by The Charlotte Ledger, and 10 Telly Awards, one of which honored his work on the documentary “Leave No Man Behind: The Story of GrowRuck 17 Pinehurst.”
Mr. Young initially studied accounting at Creighton University, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1999. Following this accomplishment, he went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he attained a Master of Business Administration in 2009. Over the course of his subsequent career, he is most proud to have made the decision to step away from the lucrative profession of investment banking to pursue his true passion, and that his videography business has done as well as it has. Outside of his primary endeavors, Mr. Young is highly active within the community of Charlotte, North Carolina, and co-founded Speed for Need, a nonprofit organization that seeks to foster inclusion for disabled individuals, providing customized racing wheelchairs for participants in fitness events.
