He began his career at National Grid as a lineman, foreman, and line supervisor from 1977 to 2011 and as an area line supervisor from 2003 to 2011. He found success as a paramedic lab instructor at Hudson Valley Community College from 2011 to 2014.
Mr. Martin contributed to Northline Utilities LCC in a variety of positions between 2011 and 2022 including project manager, interim safety director, interim safety manager, certified utility safety professional, registered nurse, neonatal resuscitation program nurse, and technical mountain medic. He garnered a stellar reputation as a technical mountain medic at Backcountry Rescue from 2000 to 2016 and as a flight nurse and paramedic for North Country Life Flight, Inc. from 2000 to 2023. He continued his career at Adirondack Health as a registered nurse since 2018 and as a cardiology registered nurse from 2019 to 2023. He worked as a home infusion registered nurse for Express Scripts from 2022 to 2023.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Martin pursued an education at Paul Smith’s College where he earned an associate of applied sciences in ecology and environmental technology in 1977. At Hudson Valley Community College, he received a New York State paramedic certificate and a paramedic and national paramedic certificate in 1999. He received a diploma in mountain medicine from the Wilderness Medical Society in 2014. He continued his academic efforts at North Country Community College, graduating with an associate of science in registered nursing in 2017. He holds ten professional certificates and licenses.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Martin has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He has volunteered as an evacuation team member, flight paramedic, educator, medical rescue team member, ski patrol, and instructor trainer. He found success with his written works “Exploring Human Judgement and Its Impact on Safety” in 2019 and a chapter he co-authored in a paramedic textbook.
In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Martin remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was a supporter of the American Heart Association and a member of the Wilderness Medical Society, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. In light of his impressive undertakings, he has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was twice recognized as the Whiteface Ski Patrol Volunteer of the Year and inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
