Sandy Wurtele, PhD, Co-owner at K Bar W Ranch, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in ranch administration, consulting and education.
With more than 40 years of experience to her credit, Dr. Wurtele has held the designation of professor emerita with the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs since 2020. She has been additionally active as the co-owner of K Bar W Ranch since 1998 and an expert witness with SKW Consulting since 2010. During her tenure in academia, she excelled as an associate professor of psychology at Washington State University from 1983 to 1988, a professor of psychology at University of Colorado, Colorado Springs from 1988 to 2020, and an associate dean of the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences at University of Colorado, Colorado Springs from 2013 to 2020. Beyond her primary responsibilities, Dr. Wurtele found succes with her written works as well, having authored “Off Limits: A Parent’s Guide to Keeping Kids Safe from Sexual Abuse” for Safer Society Press, “Out of Harm’s Way: A Parent’s Guide to Protecting Young Children from Sexual Abuse” for Parenting Press Inc., and “Safe Connections: A Parent’s Guide to Safeguarding Young Teens from Sexual Harm” for Parenting Press.
Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Wurtele pursued an education at tthe University of Nebraska-Lincoln, from which she earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology with high distinction in 1977. She concluded her studies at the University of Alabama, obtaining a Master of Arts in clinical psychology in 1980 prior to graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1983. In light of her impressive undertakings, she has accrued several accolades throughout her career, such as The First Independent Research Award from The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) in 1987 and The William Friedrich Memorial Child Sexual Abuse Research, Assessment and/or Treatment Award from The Institute on Violence Abuse and Trauma in 2009. Looking toward the future, Dr. Wurtele hopes to continue shepherding the talents of her stallion, Cat Painted Illusion, with the eventual goal of establishing a commendable track record.
