Additionally, she was a partner specialist with the United States Census Bureau from 2008 to 2010, a loan officer at Sherwood Capital of WNC Inc. from 2003 to 2005, program director at Rural Telephone Finance Cooperative and National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation from 1988 to 1992, management Analyst and Commercial Loan Officer of the Rural Electrification Administration at the United States Department of Agriculture from 1972 to 1988. Prior to these accomplishments, she earned a Bachelor of Science in administration management from the University of Maryland in 1996, as well as coursework at Lock Haven University, Central Michigan University Graduate School of Management, and public utility economics coursework at the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business.
Reflecting on why she became involved in her career, Ms. Robel says she was attracted to the opportunity to work in a field that connects people and facilitates communication, offering a blend of technological challenges and public service. She takes pride in the valuable experience she has gained from being raised in a family-owned business, which she says taught her the importance of serving the community. In her community, she is actively involved as a member of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce, the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce, the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce, and the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church. She attributes her success to the positive influence of her role models, particularly her mother, who came to the United States as a young immigrant with no knowledge of English and only a 10th-grade education. Despite these challenges, her mother successfully ran her own grocery store and restaurant for over three decades. In the coming years, she aspires to expand her business and educate small- to medium-sized companies on the benefits of telecommunications. She also stresses the importance of acknowledging and honoring the achievements of women in previous generations, encouraging today’s younger female generation to endure and seize the opportunities they have been given.
