Title: Owner
Company: Global Business Link, Inc.
Location: Baltimore, Maryland, United States
Abe W. Alsawi, Owner at Global Business Link, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in logistics.
With many years of experience to his credit, Mr. Alsawi has found much success as the owner of Global Business Link, Inc. in Baltimore, Maryland since 2006. An esteemed and reliable non-vessell operating common carrier shipping company, Global Business Link, Inc. provides their clients with loading services, warehouse and storage needs, in-land transportation, and ocean and air freight transportation via either containers or roll-on/roll-off ships. In this position, Mr. Alsawi is responsible for supervising the operations of the aforementioned company, monitors the financial and logistical aspects of their business, ensures errors are avoided in their shipping and storage environments, conducts quality control checks, and supplies contracts to his clients.
A native of Egypt, Mr. Alsawi embarked upon his professional path at the age of 13, helping his father with various tasks such as typing letters. Cementing a stellar foundation for his distinguished work ethic at an early age, he would become trusted to help with payroll and salary dispensation to overseas workers four years later. By the age of 18, Mr. Alsawi established his first business and garnered a monthly income of between $3,000 and $4,000 per month, which was a massive achievement at the time.
Mr. Alsawi initially supported his professional ambitions with a high school education in Saudi Arabia before continuing his studies abroad. Later pursuing his collegiate efforts at the Niagara Center for a semester, he subsequently enrolled at Community College of Baltimore County, completing undergraduate coursework toward a two-year degree in business management. However, Mr. Alsawi’s desire to accrue practical experience in his field prompted him to depart from the academic program, enabling him to invest in his “street smart” approach as opposed to traditional classroom learning.
As a result of his hands-on history within his field, Mr. Alsawi has found himself more adept at handling tough and unexpected obstacles in his business ventures, such as the COVID-19 Pandemic and the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore in 2024. As much as those events impacted his work, especially the latter as 90 percent of their volume is shipped out of the Baltimore area, his emphasis on maintaining the flexibility to control overhead and expand or retract quickly as a result has aided his longevity as a small business owner. Renowned among his peers for his relentless optimism, resilience, and cost control, Mr. Alsawi’s understanding of the unpredictable nature of the logistics industry and external factors that effect exports has allowed him to create contingency plans that prepared him for slow years and leverage his profitability to help with potential losses.
Mr. Alsawi has attributed his success to his expert ability to handle challenging situations as well as the influence of his father, an engineer who worked hard to care for their family and encouraged him to create value in his business. Among the highlights of his career, he is incredibly proud of his patience with Global Business Link, as his ability to gain knowledge within his industry helped transform his company from generating less than six-figure revenue to substantial profits. In the coming years, Mr. Alsawi aims to obtain a level of autonomy where Global Business Link can operate independently and he may further foster his passion for classic cars into a full-time endeavor.
