Reflecting on his career, Mr. Dickerson’s journey was shaped by his background in agriculture and banking. After college, he joined the Air Reserve and faced several career setbacks. During this time, his wife returned to teaching, and with five children to care for, he took on childcare responsibilities while seeking supplemental income. Discovering that his certified public accountant was overcharging him, he decided to learn about taxes. In the fall of 1988, he took H&R Block’s basic tax class and worked as a seasonal tax preparer for two years before being promoted to full-time assistant district manager. Since then, he has achieved great success as a meticulous tax preparer, and his talent and attention to detail have earned him a reputation as a skilled tax preparer. He is also proud of his accomplishments in the Texas Society of Enrolled Agents, having been recognized as “Enrolled Agent of the Year” on multiple occasions.
Mr. Dickerson attributes his success to his parents’ strong belief in the value of education and hard work. Growing up, he worked with a dairy herd, reflecting his father’s background as a county agricultural agent before transitioning into agribusiness. He is grateful for the unwavering support he received throughout his career and for learning to maintain the highest ethical standards. His parents consistently emphasized the importance of doing what is right, even when it is difficult, especially when no one is watching. Looking ahead, he remains dedicated to his current work but hopes to take some time off to enjoy with his family.
